Joy Killers: Never Forsake Those Who Need You

There are people who need you. To be needed is a skill. There is a strange joy in being needed.

There is a strange joy in working hard for those who need you, who depend on you. There is a strange joy in being present when you are needed. Even when that requires canceling important plans or at the expense of sleep.

The best thing that you can ever give to the other human is the confidence that you will always be there for them, and that you won’t flee when the times get tough.

I try to remember to always be grateful for the ones who need me – my wife, my children, my friends. Without them, my life would be empty. It can be tough at times, it can be tiresome, it can cost you a lot of your time and funds. But is there another option? In a strange way, we find joy and happiness when we face those challenges and not run from them.

But if you withhold yourself, if you fail to cater for the needs of those who need you, then you are losing an important point with your life. Then you don’t understand the whole idea about the strange joy.

Some people hold their closest ones in constant fear of losing them. They deliberately maintain the idea that they can vanish if somebody fails to do what they require. By doing so, they spoil their own joy in the first place. It is very difficult for them to stay healthy, to feel fulfillment and satisfaction.

By not understanding the strange nature of the true joy, they kill that joy in themselves. And the consequences are then sad.

Let us always remember not to run from responsibility. Let us always be there for our loved ones and give them the confidence that we will always be there for them.
